Temporary positions are anticipated for instructors to teach courses in areas such as human sexuality; infancy and early childhood; middle childhood and adolescence; adulthood and aging; cognitive development; social and personality development; cross-cultural study of children; contemporary American family, communication and interaction with young children; and social aspects of aging.
A list of the courses that may be available during 2019-2020 academic year is included. It is possible that courses may be added to or deleted from this list as the year progresses.
Several appointments are made each year. The number of courses assigned for each appointment may vary depending on type of course and percentage of appointment. Service dates are:
Fall Quarter 2019: September 23 - December 13
Winter Quarter 2020: January 3 – March 20
Spring Quarter 2020: March 26 – June 11
Reappointment is possible upon demonstrated competence and based on established criteria.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach one or more lecture courses in the human development major. Teaching may also involve special observational projects or guest speakers.
• Appropriate professional degree [minimum requirement is Masters, Ph.D. is preferred, e.g., in psychology, human development, or equivalent discipline];
• Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for excellence; and
• A developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to a subject area described in this announcement.
The Department of Human Ecology, Unit of Human Development and Family Studies, University of California, Davis, offers an undergraduate major leading to the Bachelor of Science degree and two undergraduate minor programs: Human Development and Adult Development and Aging. The major includes more than 750 undergraduate students of all levels (freshman through senior).
Temporary lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions which require their professional and academic expertise and to fill teaching needs occasioned by sabbatical leaves or leaves of absence of regular faculty as well as teaching needs which simply cannot be met by the current number of regular faculty. In any given year, open positions and requirements for individuals to fill them will vary.
