Position description

The University of California Davis, School of Medicine, Divisions of Nephrology and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine are recruiting for a full-time position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Professor (tenure-track) /Professor In Residence, In Residence, HSCP, or Clinical X series . The Divisions and Department seek candidates with a track-record of excellence and leadership in kidney and lung biology and a demonstrated ability to establish extramurally funded research programs as evidenced by receipt of significant funding from national agencies. The successful candidate will be expected to effectively interface with physicians and scientists, participate in collaborations within the UC Davis research community and ultimately build new translational research programs. A focus on the mechanisms of fibrosis and its role in chronic kidney and lung disease will be viewed favorably. The ability to foster collegiality and collaboration in an academic environment is essential and required. New Faculty Members will be expected to address a pathway to becoming faculty leaders of NIH­funded research centers and training grants with an emphasis on Translational Research in their statements of research interests and goals.

The successful applicant will have a joint appointment with the Divisions of Nephrology and Pulmonary and Critical Care 50%/50%. Appointees to the Professorial series are expected to conduct independent research, maintain a record of consistent research and scholarly activity, significantly participate in teaching and University/public service, and work cooperatively and collegially in a diverse environment.

Required candidate qualifications include either an MD or DO degree with board certification or eligibility in Nephrology and eligibility for medical licensure in the state of California, or a PhD or equivalent advanced degree in research with additional postdoctoral research training; an established track record of original research publications in high-impact journals and extramurally funded grants as a principal investigator, and a record of teaching preferably including renal diseases. Demonstrated leadership experience and abilities, and the ability to adhere to policies and procedures is required. Candidates should have a research focus on basic mechanisms of disease across renal and respiratory biology.
UC Davis has an extraordinarily rich community of kidney and lung investigators that span many Schools and Colleges and have diverse research interests, including cell and molecular lung biology, kidney fibrosis, lung fibrosis, pulmonary vascular disease, environmental health, cancer, drug development, imaging and inflammation and immunology. Collaborations are fostered through the activities of the School of Engineering, clinical and affiliated centers such as the UC Davis Clinical Translational Sciences Center, California National Primate Research Center, the Center for Comparative Medicine, the Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging, the Cellular and Molecular Imaging Core, the West Coast Metabolomics Center, the UC Davis Mouse Biology Program, and numerous interdisciplinary research-focused graduate programs. These outstanding resources will enable the successful candidate to enhance their research program across kidney and lung biology, as well as to establish new programs within the Division of Nephrology and across the UC Davis campus.
