Position description

The University of California (UC), Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine seeks to hire an Assistant Specialist at 65%. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work i the United states. The University will not offer sponsorship for this position

The appointee will be required to make creative scientific contributions and increase the collaborative development of an active research program investigating the interaction between inherited coding variations and somatic mutations in TP53. Under the direction of Dr. Jeremy Chien, the candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting a series of experiments in the development and application of cancer cell line models with specific somatic mutations and germline variations in TP53. Our main focus is to characterize how germline variations modify the properties of mutated TP53, including loss-of-function and gain-of-function effects of mutant TP53. The candidate should be able to conduct independent research, present findings in local and national scientific meetings, prepare manuscripts, and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of TP53-related literature. Candidate should provide guidance to junior and senior technicians, and work in a team-based laboratory environment, leading projects and working directly with PhD trainees.

Publication: The candidate will prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, books, and other outlets either independently or in collaboration with the PI or other members of the research team.

Grant Acquisition: This candidate will participate in the preparation and the development of research proposals independently or in collaboration with the PI to compete for funding from federal, state agencies, and other funding organizations. The candidate will prepare and assist in the preparation of reports as required by granting agencies.

The candidate will attend seminars to present research results and may give oral presentations to public and professional interest groups. When appropriate, the candidate may coordinate and/or give presentations at seminars, laboratory meetings, or educational functions. The candidate is encouraged to engage in public outreach activities that include presenting scientific research results to the general public and providing relevant advice to individuals and public agencies.
Basic Qualifications: MS in the fields related to biological sciences, molecular biology or biochemistry. The successful candidate must have 3 or more years of independent research experience that involves the use of techniques in molecular biology and tissue culture, fluorescence protein biochemistry, flow cytometry, cloning, cytotoxicity assay, ChIP, qRT-PCR, qPCR, and design and characterization of RNAi reagents.
