Position description

The California National Primate Research Center at the University of California, Davis, has an opening for non-tenured, academic term appointments as a Junior Specialist for Dr. Hong Ji’s lab in our Respiratory Diseases Unit (https://cnprc.ucdavis.edu/hong-ji/). The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of research on topics such as epigenetics, respiratory diseases, childhood asthma and environmental exposures by working closely with the research team under the direction of the PI. Research models used in the lab include mammalian cell culture, animal models and human specimen. Candidate will design and perform experiments under supervision of PI and senior lab members, record data, assistant in lab management and assist in data management/analysis. The candidate will be expected to present at weekly lab meetings (Ji Lab) and journal clubs (Ji Lab). The candidate may present research results to a group of collaborators and is encouraged to present at relevant seminars; The candidate will participate in grant/report writing, and participate in training activities. This position will be expected to contribute to publication, including writing method section for experiments performed by them, review manuscript drafts/final manuscript for accuracy. The candidate will attend seminars and may present research results and is encouraged to interact with professional interest groups, although it is not required. Participate in mentoring undergraduate students. Participate in activities of committees within the department, college, campus and other University entities, as appropriate.
Qualifications:
1) Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related biological sciences field.
2) A minimum of 2 year of experience working in a research lab.
3) Knowledge and skills in the field of molecular biology and genome research.
4) Knowledge of Scientific Terminology and ability to synthesize publically available medical literature.
5) Analytical ability sufficient to compare data; mathematical ability sufficient to perform algebraic calculations and statistical analysis.
6) Capable of understanding and following verbal and written instructions.
7) Demonstrate high clerical accuracy, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and an independent work initiative.
8) Able to keep a complete and detailed laboratory notebook of experimental procedures.
9) Able to identify mistakes and discuss resolution plan.
10) Attention to the veracity of results.
11) Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
12) Capable of meeting time demands necessary to execute experiments.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Experience with animal models and mammalian tissue culture.
2) Some bioinformatic skills, experience with computing equipment including Macintosh and PC operating systems, Word, Excel, and statistical analysis programs, among others.
3) Demonstrated ability to work independently, taking initiative, making critical decision and communication of ideas.
