The Department of Neurology, the Department of Neurological Surgery, and the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, seek a medical neuro-oncologist for a full time faculty position. The position responsibilities are primarily clinical care and clinical trial or outcome investigations.
UC Davis teaching hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center with the largest catchment area of the academic medical centers in California. UC Davis Medical Center is nationally recognized and has received numerous awards for quality of patient care and provides clinical, academic, and research leadership in the region. The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, as designated by the National Cancer Institute, is one of only 49 comprehensive centers in the United States. It is the only Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Sacramento area and inland California and has a robust and growing neuro-oncology clinical and research program. UCDH Neurology is nationally ranked in U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Hospitals in the specialty of Neurology and Neurological Surgery. Neurology has fourteen subspecialties with a mature TeleNeurology program that geographically projects into large areas of Northern and Central California, Nevada, and Southern Oregon.
The successful candidate will partner with neuro-oncological neurosurgeons in expanding a multidisciplinary neuro-oncology program that utilizes the full spectrum of related subspecialties and support services already available at UCD Health System. The ideal candidate would have expertise in diagnosis, treatment, and management of tumors of the nervous system and be familiar with the neurological consequences of cancer therapeutics including organ transplant and cancer immunotherapeutics. It is desirable the candidate has experience with developing investigator initiated clinical trials or pursuing translational research and is enthusiastic about expansion of those activities at UCDH and the Comprehensive Cancer Center. The candidate is expected to lead accrual efforts in neuro-oncology clinical trials.
The faculty member will provide inpatient and outpatient clinical care; teach medical students, neurology residents, neurology, neurosurgical, and oncology fellows; develop research and creative work; accrue to clinical trials; and provide university/public service. The academic rank and track of the position is commensurate with the level of experience and qualifications of the applicant.
Faculty appointed in the Ladder Rank and In Residence series are expected to engage in teaching, research and university and public service. The Clin X series has teaching research and service with an extra component of clinical practice. The Health Sciences Clinical Professor series is expected to engage in teaching, clinical care, service and contribute to scholarly and creative activities.
• The individual must possess an MD and be board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and have completed a minimum of one year fellowship training in a UCNS-accredited neuro-oncology program. The candidate should be either eligible or certified for UCNS Neuro-Oncology. A valid California medical license or eligibility for licensure in the State of California is required.
• The individual must have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment; adhere to policies and procedures; and provide University/public service.
• Prior experience conducting scholarly/clinical/translational research and a record of publication in peer reviewed journals is required.
Evidence of success in obtaining extramural funding and/or administering clinical trials is preferred. Prior teaching and mentoring experience is preferred.
