Postdoctoral Research Associate

Type of Position: The initial appointment will be for 1 year with renewal dependent on satisfactory performance and available funding.

Date Position Available: Immediate

Description of Duties: The incumbent will conduct research, under field conditions and Contained Research Facilities, to contribute to the development of preemptive solutions for detection, containment, management, and eradication of branched broomrape Phelipanche ramose in California vegetable crop production systems. The successful candidate will develop a decision support system for integrated management of broomrape through calibration and validation of a thermal time predictive model of parasitism dynamics. The incumbent will be expected to contribute to all aspects of the project and help supervise research assistants and students.

Qualifications Sought:

Education
• Ph.D. in Weed Science/Ecology, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Plant Science, or related fields
Experience and skills
• A sound knowledge of and research experience in weed science

• Prior experience in working with broomrape or other root parasitic plants is highly desirable
• Ability to work in contained research facilities and follow quarantine guidelines
• Modeling, quantitative and programing skills
• Experience in writing journal articles in English
• Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
• Valid driver’s license
