The University of California (UC), Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine seeks to hire a full-time (100%) employee as an Assistant Project Scientist.
This position requires creative contributions and collaborative development of active research programs investigating topics relevant to the research areas of molecular pharmacology, cancer therapeutics, and drug discovery.
Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. in the fields related to Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cancer Therapy or Biochemistry. Three or more years of research experience in cancer pharmacology and therapy research including drug metabolism and disposition, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, microRNAs, assay development and drug discovery in cancer therapeutics.
Preferred Qualifications: Should have extensive experience (6+ years) in molecular pharmacological and biological techniques (handling small-molecule drugs, DNA, RNA and protein samples), cell culture and cell biology techniques. Solid background (3+ years) in study design and fluency in the use of technologies germane to the investigation of drug metabolism/pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (DM/PK/PD) in cell and animal models including the production and use of patient-derived xenograft (PDX) and organoid (PDO) models, as well as the use of FPLC, HPLC, LC-MS, and microscopies.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, design and conduct series of experiments to evaluate new anticancer agents in cell and animal models. The candidate will focus on developing and using novel approaches and models for determining DM/PK/PD properties, synergism, pharmacological mechanisms, and possible biomarkers & molecular signatures. She/He will actively interact with various investigators to fulfill the needs for different projects. She/He should be able to teach and guide junior and senior team players and work in a team based research environment, lead projects, and work directly with MD and PhD trainees.
Publication: The candidate will publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, books, and other outlets either independently or in collaboration with the PI, collaborators, or other members of the research team.
Grant Acquisition: The candidate will assist in acquiring proposals for funding from federal and state agencies and other funding organizations. The candidate will develop timeline and strategy; write and submit grant proposals with input from Dr. Aiming Yu. The candidate will prepare and assist in the preparation of reports as required by granting agencies.
The candidate will participate in professional societies and conferences appropriate to her/his specific field and will serve as a reviewer of research proposals and scientific publications as appropriate. The candidate will attend seminars to present research results and may give oral presentations to public and professional interest groups. When appropriate, the candidate may coordinate and/or give presentations at seminars, laboratory meetings, or educational functions. The candidate will engage in public outreach activities that include presenting scientific research results to the general public and providing relevant advice to individuals and public agencies. The candidate will engage in University service activities such as guest lecturing and committee service. Lecturing classroom courses is not required for this position but may be offered as new endeavor.
