Position description

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis, invites applicants for a Junior Specialist position. The Junior Specialist will be involved in laboratory research of new treatments for neurological disorders. The position is located at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

General responsibilities include assisting the Project Investigators in experiment planning and design, scientific documentation of the experiments/results and preparation of manuscripts for publication and grant proposals.

The successful candidate will engage in research and professional competence activities with the Project Investigator(s) such as peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, research reports and talk/poster presentations. The candidate will participate in all lab meetings, discussing ongoing and future projects with clinical and research faculty and staff. The candidate will attend discussions with collaborators such as weekly journal clubs, Neurology Grand Rounds, conferences and other relevant presentations. In addition, the candidate will be expected to provide University and public service by assisting in the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students on lab operations.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the dynamic academic environment at the Rogawski Lab.

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in neuroscience, physiology, biology, chemistry or biochemistry or a related discipline
Strong interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills
The ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in chemistry or biochemistry and/or experience handling laboratory animals.
Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures, including use of analytical balance and preparation of solutions

SALARY RANGE: Step I - $39,500 [100% annual] or Step II - $42,100 [100% annual]), commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Appointments are made contingent upon availability of funding. The term of appointment is short term, based on the needs of the research projects. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
