The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Davis invites applications for 2 qualified Junior Specialist positions.
This position provides research support to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine for clinical trials, biobanking, and quality research, and specifically studies related to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510k in vitro diagnostic (IVD) trials and operating with unique patient populations including inpatients, pediatrics, and acute injury.
The position of Junior Specialist has a narrow focus in a specialized area and provides technical or specialized expertise (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, or with research methods) in the planning and execution of a research project. Junior Specialists are required to be actively and significantly involved in publishable research activities, including reviewing journal articles and engaging in discussions on research and the interpretation of research results. Junior Specialists are also expected to participate in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations as well as review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications as applicable related to their research area of expertise. The Junior Specialist will serve the public and University by mentoring students, interns, and volunteers on lab operations and projects.
General responsibilities include:
The ability to quickly gain knowledge and demonstrate understanding. The capability of efficiently learning and performing the following duties
• The candidate will perform IVD studies as defined by sponsor or investigator-initiated protocols including patient screening, obtaining informed consent, data collection and monitoring.
• They will also support the Pathology Biorepository operations for collection, processing, and archiving of human specimens (e.g., tissue, body fluids) regulated by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
• Experience in IVD device development and/or evaluation
• Experience in using advance statistical methods and programming using MATLAB and other software.
• Experience using medical and scientific terminology is required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex agency policies and guidelines, protocol and research report is required.
• Data management experience.
• Knowledge of the university’s policies and procedures related to research, human subjects, and clinical trials is required.
• Ability to design and maintain an efficient filing and record keeping system is required.
• Ability to handle PHI and HIPAA confidential material is required.
• Experience working with multiple healthcare disciplines including but not limited to surgery, nursing, internal medicine, and pathology.
• Reliable transportation and ability to be on “on-call” for select studies.
• Experience in drafting research abstracts and manuscripts for peer review.
• Backgrounds in biomedical engineering is desirable.
Salary: Step I - $39,500 annual, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Number of Positions Available: 2
Term Of Appointment: Short-term 2-year maximum Non-Exempt appointment, seasonal appointment based on the needs of the research project. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
