Position description

The Meyers lab is seeking a highly motivated and independent individual interested in postdoctoral work on extracellular RNAs in plants, humans, and insects. Dr. Baldrich's research focuses on the characteristics of extracellular RNAs in diverse species and their role in modulating microbiomes. The postdoctoral scholar in this position will identify transcriptomic and epitranscriptomic characteristics that are unique and conserved across different kingdoms of life.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the computational analysis of RNA and small RNA sequencing, as well as direct RNA sequencing and RNA LC-MS. They will work closely with teams across the US in a highly collaborative project. They will have the opportunity to attend workshops, conferences, or courses aimed at enhancing their existing analytical skills as required by ongoing and future research projects. They will also mentor students and participate in the preparation and writing of manuscripts and grants.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• PhD in the area of (Plant) Biology, Developmental Biology, Systems Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Genetics
• Experience in manipulating large-scale genomic data and efficient utilization of computer clusters.
• Demonstrated knowledge and programming experience in R.
• Familiarity and working knowledge of standard bioinformatics tools, packages, algorithms, and databases for the analysis of genetics data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Highly motivated and committed to research.
• Strong organizational skills.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

• Experience in transcriptome sequencing.
• Experience constructing some type of sequencing library.
